Eva Airways - CDG-TPY-BKK

Being a relative new airline in the passenger field, Eva Airways offers the benefit of relative new planes. Eva Airways offers direct flights to Bangkok from the UK and Amsterdam and in addition offers several flights over Taipei. Being in Paris we decided to evaluate the long route over Taipei.
Paris departures from Terminal 1 are in the morning around 11am and checkin opens at exactly 3 hours in advance. Before you are allowed to queue for the actual checkin your flight documents are already checked (remember to print your e-ticket) after which you can queue again for the checkin. This makes the checkin process unneeded longer but seems mainly aimed at identifying passengers for specific destinations. The review of bagage weight seems to be strict so be aware of your luggage weight. You are only given your boarding pass for the leg to Taipei and will have to collect the boarding pass for Bangkok at the Taipei Transit Desk.
Boarding an Eva Airways plane is always done on class and row number. They do board premium classes first followed by their evergreen (premium Economy class). After those economy gets boarded with the lst section of the plane first followed by the first economy section. The planes are very light colored inside and as per standard 777 the inflight entertainment system is individual.

The seats are comfortable enough for a tall person but there is a box for the in-flight entertainment systems under some of the seats reducing your foot space. In Economy the recline of the seats is good compared to some other airlines and this offers a good rest possibility. The in flight entertainment offers several movies and games to keep you entertained during your flight.
One of the big plus points of EVA is the atentative service on board. Drinks are served in plenty and food is again above average taste (if you like asian food). During the flights the galey is always manned and drinks are standing ready to take. During the flights sandwiches are made available for a quick bite in-between. Breakfast was less quality wise and should be improved on by EVA.

Arriving in Taipei, you are directed to the Transit desk which can get crowded as many planes arrive arround the same time (being the EVA Hub) but boarding passes are preprinted sorted on destination resulting in a reasonable fast processing. After a swift security check you are back in the departure hall.
Taipei is not a very attractive airport unless you like hello kitty (then you will love Gate C4 which is hello kitty decorated) and food is available but minimal. Be aware that though the gates are numbered on the departure level, you actually have to go down one floor to get to the gate and boarding desks. Seating is adequate throughout the airport and drinks are available in vending machines at reasonable prices.
The flight to Bangkok is part of the flight to London and apart from food which was decent was quite eventless. Arrival at Bangkok airport was on time and even though some international flights arrived at the same time immigration and bags did not take more then 20 minutes.
Overall EVA is a good airline that offers a reasonable price. Premium economy is seat wise a tip as ou just have more space when the price is right.
Direct: good option
In-direct: ok option if layover is less then 3 hours
